collaborative teamwork

Pat Flynn – The Power of Collaborative Teamwork for the Entrepreneur: From Solopreneur to SPI Media and Beyond (AoL 200)

In the last session, I brought up the books Key Person of Influence and OverSubscribed both written by Daniel Priestley and one thing that these books have made is that the dream of the solopreneur is a pipedream. In fact, as a business owner, we need to seek collaborative teamwork as soon as possible.

And, as I’ve been telling people in my day to day life, I think these books are as vital to someone’s success as an entrepreneur as Rich Dad, Poor Dad and The E-Myth Revisited are. Sure, you can go without reading any of these books… but I highly suggest you don’t pass them over.

For the longest time, today’s guest might have been considered the Ultimate Warrior of Solopreneurship. In fact, for much of its history, Smart Passive Income (SPI) featured Pat Flynn as the Crash Test Dummy of Online Business. And if he could start a six figure passive income business on his own, anyone could.

But here’s the thing. For several years now, he’s been part of a team. Sure, he’s been the head of creative at SPI, but he’s been part of a team.

And I have to admit, when that transition happened out of the blue, I (and I’m sure plenty of others) felt left behind.

But as you’ll hear, when he joined forces with Matt Garland and his team, things completely changed. The power of collaborative teamwork began changing his business and his life.

Listen in as Veronica and I hear about his Pat his journey of leaving the legend of the great solopreneur behind to join his own team of Avengers.

I think it’s a lesson we all have to hear moving forward.

Enjoy!

Desmond Clark – Creating a Standard of Winning – Key Insights for Developing Lifelong Skills for Success (AoL 192)

As we’re getting started in this second year of potentially a two or three year pandemic “clean up” plan, there’s going to be plenty of time for us to really adjust and think about where we fit in the world. It’s a great time to develop our skills for success.

What do I mean by that?

Well, it’s a forced transition period for all of us. What might have been our identity in the past, might not work in the PAE.

That said, one group of individuals who all have to go through this major life change sometime in their career are professional athletes. Like our guest, Desmond “Dez” Clark says, if your identity was wrapped up into your job (as an athlete), you’re going to have issues when you can’t do that job anymore.

Luckily for Dez, he knew who he was before his career as a professional athlete. So when he finished up, yes, there was a transition period, but he was the same Dez who used the game as a means to get what he wanted.

In this chat with him, Ya’el and I learn a little bit of what he’s learned over the years through these transitions and how he’s been able to stay the course during his life using those experiences.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • Where did Desmond’s early leadership mentality come from? 8:46
  • How did he develop a vision for his athletic life and able to stick to it? 12:11
  • When did Dez realize it was time to transition into a new life/identity? 17:07
  • Why does he believe his success wasn’t a coincidence? 20:50
  • How did Dez start realizing that failures aren’t necessarily endings but just learning opportunities no matter the cost? 25:00
  • How does he actively build relationships to help him and those around him get to the next level? 28:11
  • Is there a secret to gauging if a conversation is a winning conversation? 29:43
  • What’s a bad day look like to Dez? 38:25
  • What is he looking forward to in 2021? 41:06
  • Which teachers have helped him get to where he’s at today? 42:53
  • If he could ask anyone living a dead a question, who and what would he ask? 43:11
  • Which issue should be discussed more today, yet hardly anyone does? 44:01
  • What advice does he hear adults give children which he’d like to call BS on? 44:21
  • What’s the secret to achieving personal freedom? 45:02

day trading for beginners

Jason Brown – Day Trading for Beginners: How to Make Passive Income in the Stock Market (AoL 182)

When it comes to the stock market, the most knowledge people typically have is letting someone else manage their portfolio. Robert Kiyosaki strongly urges people not to do this because, generally speaking, those that do manage other people’s money do so in whatever way they can earn the most commission. So, where does someone look if they’re interested in finding out more about day trading for beginners?

For me, this has been an answer I’ve not been able to find a solution to for the entirety of this show. We’ve had plenty of guests who have built their businesses in the B quadrant, and we’ve had several reality stars who have built a great portfolio in the I quadrant. However, we’ve never had an expert on whose focus is helping those who want to build wealth through paper assets.

Until now.

More often than not, people generally build an S quadrant business, scale it through the B quadrant, and then take their profits and buy assets in the I quadrant.

However, there’s no rule that says you can’t start slowly in the I quadrant and then build a business helping others do the same in the B quadrant. In this session Andy and I learn how our guest Jason Brown ended up doing just that with The Brown Report and Power Trades University.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • How did Jason get started in the stock market? 13:14
  • How does someone know if they’re investing in a good investment in financial education? 20:59
  • Why should someone even think about passive income in general? 27:06
  • What are some keywords someone who wants to make money on the stock market should be paying attention to? 29:51
  • What kind of personal traits should someone have if they’re considering getting involved with the stock market? 32:37
  • Is there something specific about Jason’s process that works for him and others? 38:05
  • How can someone convert their business’ profits into another revenue stream successfully? 41:33
  • What is Jason looking forward to in his business and the market? 45:48
  • Which podcasts are his top 3 most influential? 47:37
  • Is there something he’s gotten better at saying no to? 48:43
  • What’s something he’s learned about recently and excited to implement? 50:49

practicing mindfulness

Kelly DiNardo – Practicing Mindfulness in an Uncertain World: What Yoga can Teach Us about the Next New Economy with Kelly DiNardo (AoL 173)

In a an usual time like we’re going through right now, it’s easy to be hyper responsive to everything that’s going on around us. Practicing mindfulness is probably the last thing many folks are thinking about. In fact, I’d go on to say that many people are doing the opposite – they’re in a constant state of panic. They’re still focused on what we’ve been through, not where the world is going.

But can you blame them? Many who were hanging on a thread from their day job have found themselves in a lot of hurt right now. Even small business owners and farmers find themselves having to do things they never thought they’d have to.

What I’ve personally found out is this. If we can manage our stress in stressful times, then new solutions and new ways of looking at the world come more readily. We have to give ourselves room to find our own pandemic pivot. (Plus it always seems to me that survivors in zombie movies tend to see what the masses are doing, and do the opposite!)

In this conversation with Kelly DiNardo, we learn about a time where she herself had to pivot earlier in her career. While it wasn’t convenient at the time, it sure did prep her for future times of adversity.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • What was Kelly’s “A-ha!” moments when it came to practicing mindfulness? 11:22
  • What was the process like for Kelly in putting together her Yoga business? 17:37
  • How does she find time to manage her two completely different businesses? 22:13
  • Based on how she runs her business, what opportunities has she seen to grow and expand her business? 26:54
  • What are her thoughts when it comes to achievement vs feeling shut in and scared during the pandemic? 33:13
  • Even though we’re dealing with the pandemic in 2020, what is Kelly still excited for this year? 39:24
  • What are Kelly’s top 3 influential podcasts she listens to? 41:23
  • In the last few years, is there something specific she’s learned to say no to? 42:35

entrepreneurial mindset

Joe Trodden – Dissecting the Entrepreneurial Mindset – Why It Takes More than a Visionary to Achieve Great Things (AoL 172)

When it comes to the entrepreneurial mindset, most of the time we hear topics that the new business owner needs to know. It’s great to know that there’s so much support for folks new to the game. In fact, people like my unofficial mentor Pat Flynn and the crew over at Fizzle have made decent livings on helping these folks. (Which I admire because it’s really hard to grow a reputation in this market segment. The market is already saturated and many folks don’t or can’t pay at this stage in the game.)

However, there is market for entrepreneurs and business owners who have had a bit of success. This is the scaling stage – the stage that Veronica, Andy, myself, and previous cohosts of the show specialize in.

And depending on how they’ve grown the business to this point, the way that they’ll continue to grow is more than likely completely different than what got them to that level of success.

In today’s chat with Joe, Veronica and I are reminded that different personalities can build a business so far. It’s when you bring other complementary personalities to the table that you can obtain true greatness.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • How did Joe find himself working in the mindset space? 10:12
  • What are some of the mental blocks Joe finds himself helping entrepreneurs with? 15:57
  • What major shifts should business owners take to see their business in a new light? 21:30

business marketing

Devin Johnson – Automated Business Marketing the Right Way: Why Leading with Relationships is Ideal When Making Sales (AoL 171)

Business marketing online is still a bit of a mystery to many business owners. Especially when it comes to LinkedIn.

In the past, we’ve had interviews with LinkedIn marketing experts Myr Bacun and AJ Wilcox about building groups and advertising on the platform.

Those are great and cool strategies on their own, and I know they work. But it seems that whenever I go to LinkedIn, I’m always being blasted by 3 to 5 messages saying “Hey, nice to connect! Seems we know similar people. Do you need help with…?”

Have you felt that way?

As this session’s guest, Devin Johnson puts it, it’s simply not the way to do long term business. You lead with relationship first.

So in this interview, we’ll learn how Devin and his company Kennected are righting the ship when it comes to making meaningful connections online.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • What were the early years like of being an entrepreneur for Devin? 11:59
  • How’d Devin eventually get into marketing? 16:22
  • How did it occur to him he could create a program to do things he found himself repeating in his marketing? 22:45
  • What are some of Devin’s do’s and don’ts when it comes to marketing? 28:28

economic crisis

John Miles – Virtually Assisting VA’s in Economic Crisis – How Optimate and iWorker Aid Talent in Distress (AoL 170)

With the coronavirus outbreak, working remotely is starting to become a normal trend. In fact, I’d say it’s moved the timeline up by 5 years or more until we see a lot more remote workers. However, not all virtual workers are from first world countries where being able to work remotely is considered a perk. Instead, they reside in countries where they might be in the middle of long term economic crisis. They have learned how to become virtual assistants or VA’s so that they can bring in money than they’d get paid in their home country.

To help those folks, today’s guest, John Miles, and his partners at iWorker and Optimate, have built a network of VA’s around the globe. These aren’t just any VA’s, though. They are VA’s who actually are usually more than capable to handle what us solopreneurs would throw at them. In fact, a lot of them have degrees in the work that they do.

In this interview with John, we find out why he and his partners felt they needed to start down this path and who might benefit from hiring from those in the network.

Enjoy!

SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT:

  • What’s John’s history in business and as an entrepreneur before starting iWorker and Optimate? 9:48
  • What are some questions people need to consider before they bring on a VA or hire locally? 23:22
